Science for Defeating Malaria: Prof. Wondji Shares Strategic Insights in Kigali

On June 17, 2025, AVecGen’s Principal Investigator, Prof. Charles Wondji, took centre stage at the prestigious “Science of Defeating Malaria” course held in Kigali, Rwanda. As a lead facilitator, he delivered a compelling session focused on overcoming vector control challenges to accelerate the path toward malaria elimination.

This high-impact course, organized in collaboration with Harvard University, UCAD Senegal, and the University of Health and Allied Sciences (Ghana), brought together global experts and emerging leaders in malaria research and control. Designed to provide a multidisciplinary perspective, the program equips participants with the tools and knowledge needed to address malaria across diverse transmission settings.

Among the participants were notable Malaria leaders, including Dr. Magellan Tchouakui, a Wellcome Trust Fellow at CRID, who engaged in hands-on learning through interactive discussions and real-world case studies with technical teams from the Rwanda Biomedical Centre (RBC).

The course covered key thematic areas:

  • Community Surveillance
  • Logistics and Supply Management Systems
  • Biological Threats and Entomological Surveillance
  • Epidemic Detection and Response

Running from June 15 to June 20, 2025, the “Science of Defeating Malaria” course exemplified the power of collaboration and innovation in global health. CRID remains committed to advancing research and leadership in the fight against malaria, reinforcing its role as a hub for scientific excellence and strategic partnerships.
