Description
This Aim focuses on strengthening the functional genomics platform at CRID to support advanced research and capacity building in Africa. The first major component involves enhancing the existing infrastructure through the acquisition of specialized equipment, the establishment of technical services to ensure long-term sustainability, and the implementation of a training program in functional genomics tailored for African scientists. This will create a robust foundation for experimental validation of gene function and variant impact. To build on this foundation, the project will conduct case studies using previously identified candidate genes and variants. These studies will serve to reinforce and refine existing functional genomics approaches, providing practical insights and validating methodologies already in use. In parallel, the project will initiate new case studies aimed at developing and testing novel functional genomics strategies. These efforts will expand the methodological toolkit available at CRID and position the centre as a leader in functional validation research on the continent. Together, these activities will not only enhance CRID’s technical capabilities but also foster a collaborative environment for innovation, training, and scientific excellence in functional genomics.
