Description
The African Centre for Vector Genomics project aims to build human capacity in bioinformatics, genomics, and vector control through targeted training and knowledge transfer. The first activity focuses on the advanced capacitation of CRID staff in the fields of bioinformatics and genomics. This will involve intensive training programs, workshops, and mentorship opportunities designed to deepen technical expertise, enhance data analysis capabilities, and support the application of OMICs technologies in research and public health. The goal is to empower CRID personnel with the skills needed to lead high-impact genomic studies and contribute to regional scientific leadership. In parallel, the project will support the training of the vector control community through the AVecGen initiative. This component will deliver practical, context-specific training sessions aimed at strengthening the knowledge and skills of professionals involved in vector surveillance and control. The training will cover the integration of genomic tools into vector control strategies, data interpretation, and the use of bioinformatics platforms to inform decision-making. Together, these activities will foster a multidisciplinary and well-equipped workforce capable of leveraging genomics and bioinformatics to address pressing public health challenges in Africa.
